How did this come to our attention?

Even though the UK is one of the most developed countries in the world, many people still struggle to eat adequately. Those with low incomes or on the cusp of the poverty border have to survive on one or two meals a day, even with minimal options or ingredients. When we first rolled out the food bank we found that many people needed it, and were very grateful for our service.

Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life and well life being

FAQ

What is Zakat?

– Zakat is a powerful Islamic principle of charitable giving that can potentially transform the lives of individuals and communities. At Acchah we firmly believe in the impact of Zakat and its ability to bring about positive change. Through Zakat’s generous contributions, we can provide free food and clothing to those in need, ensuring their basic needs are met.

How do you make sure my gifts to are spent wisely?

– At Acchah, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of accountability and transparency. We understand the importance of ensuring Zakat funds are used appropriately and effectively. We conduct thorough evaluations of the charities and organizations we collaborate with to ensure that your Zakat contributions are directed toward the right causes and reach those who need them most.

We assess various factors through diligent scrutiny, including the donation policy of the charities we work with. We want to ensure that a significant portion of your Zakat contribution provides free food and clothing to those in need. We are committed to providing regular updates and information about our Zakat initiatives through social media and communication channels. We believe in the power of transparency and keeping our supporters informed about the impact of their donations. By sharing stories, testimonials, and progress reports, we aim to foster a sense of connection and demonstrate the positive change that Zakat’s contributions can bring.

How do you know which children need help?

– Although our service is open to all, we still ask some key questions to make sure that only people who really need the service access it, so that it is not misused. We ask to see proof of benefits or income as well as having a quota for the facility.

Where does my money actually go?

– Your donations go to all the ingredients we source as well as all the logistical, transportation and distribution of the food and clothes. With Zakat’s help, we can establish and maintain a free food program that serves as a lifeline for individuals and families facing food insecurity. Our weekly food distribution ensures that anyone in need can come to us and collect essential items without cost. We firmly believe that hunger should never hinder a person’s well-being and development. Our food bank operates on the principle of inclusivity and compassion. We do not use a voucher-based system, as we firmly believe that anyone who seeks our help is in need and deserves assistance. Our service is open to everyone, regardless of background, religion, or circumstances.

What percentage of my donation goes towards programs?

– For the Zakat fund, 100% of your money goes to this cause. We don’t use your donation for unrelated expenses – only the cost in delivering your Zakat, the logistics and food itself. For our international humanitarian projects, the only expense paid for by donations are the hourly wages for our fundraisers. We have no salaried staff that are paid for by your donations.

What’s your goal?

– Our goal is to eliminate all food poverty and waste, nobody should have to go hungry and food should not be wasted when so many still cannot afford to eat adequately.
